Thought of Saint Augustine
There is an origin and source of virtue. There is a root of wisdom. And, there is, so to speak, a region of changeless truth. If the soul leaves this region, it lives in darkness but, when it approaches this region, it is enlightened.
(En. in ps. 58, S 1, 18)
It is night while this life is lived. And when is this night illuminated? It is lighted when Christ descends to the night. He took the flesh of this generation and our night received the light.
(En. in ps. 138,14)
Do not despair, you who are blind. Come close to him, and you will be healed. You who are blind, come close to him and you will be illuminated.
