Thought of Saint Augustine
Do not despair, you who are blind. Come close to him, and you will be healed. You who are blind, come close to him and you will be illuminated.
Because every man is a neighbor to all men, one should not allow any kind of distance where there is a common nature.
(En. in ps. 118, S 8, 2)
I shall know you, you who know me. Virtue of my soul, go deep into it and make it fit for you, so that you may have it and possess it, without stain or wrinkle.

A Monument to Augustinian Martyrs

Paracuellos, Spain
August 2013

On August 21, 2013, a monument was erected in the cemetery of Paracuellos, Spain, to commemorate the place where 70 of our friars were killed in 1936 in the religious persecution that occured during Spain's Civil War. A part of the monument is a mosaic reproduction of the large painting of their martyrdom, the work of Pedro Martínez Tavera, which hangs in the Sala de Capas of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo of El Escorial. On October 28, 2007 these martyrs of Paracuellos were among the 98 Augustinian martyrs of the war who were beatified in Saint Peter's Square.
