A Conference on St. Augustine and World Culture

A day-long Conference on Saint Augustine and World Culture, was held on April 23, 2013 in the Grand Hall of the All-Russia State Library of Foreign Literature, the first such conference on Saint Augustine ever to be held in Russia. The conference was co-sponsored by the Moscow Patriarchate of the Orthodox Church, among other organizations. Father Robert Dodaro OSA, President of the Patristic Institute Augustinianum, was one of the presenters, speaking on the theme Saint Augustine and Politics. Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chiarman of the Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations and Rector of the Ss Cyril and Methodius Theological Institute for Post- Graduate and Doctoral Studies, delivered a conference on Saint Augustine on the Borders of Civilizations, Religions and Cultures. Among the other presenters were Msgr. Henri Tessier, Archbishop Emeritus of Algiers who spoke on The Universal Message of Saint Augustine and Msgr. Pavel Pezzi, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow, which was also a co-sponsor of the conference. Dr. K. V. Karpov, a researcher in the Institute of Philosophy at the Russian Academy of Sciences delivered a paper on Saint Augustine and the Spirituality of the Order of Augustinian Hermits. Included in the day's events was the opening of an exhibition of rare publications of St. Augustine from the Library holdings.
