With enthusiasm and joy the Augustinians of Latin America participated in their continental encounter of urban ministry and pastoral ministry, held in Trujillo, Peru from the 11th to the 15th of August 2014. The theme proposed for this encounter was: “Pastoral Conversion for a New Evangelization”. The response to the invitation from OALA was excellent and the encounter opened with great expectations. Many pastors from the many circumscriptions of Latin America attended: the Antilles, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil (The Vicariate of Our Mother of Consolation), Argentina, Bolivia and Peru (the Province and the three Vicariates), 38 participants in all.

The meeting began with a reflection on the traditional methodology of seeing, judging and acting. Seeing: From the beginning, the question was to look at the present reality and to see if pastoral plans that are being carried out in a particular church are responding to the signs of the times. Judging: Then the present reality was looked at from the point of view of the words of the Gospel, Church documents and Augustinian documents. Acting: On Thursday, August 14 the work focused on looking at the criteria of the pastoral plan formulated with the Augustinian charism and responding to the signs of the times.

During the day there were presentations and group work. It can be truly said that the Augustinian brothers of Latin America showed much enthusiasm and concern for the reality of pastoral ministry, which today calls for a creative and dynamic commitment to pastoral ministry and that responds to the signs of the times, while at the same time it does not lose its essentials and keeps the freshness of the Gospel which inspires the New Evangelization.
