Thought of Saint Augustine
Mary was happy because she listened and kept God's word. She kept the truth in her spirit more than in the flesh of her womb.
Past and present I find in all movement of things; but it is not so in the Truth that remains forever; I only find the present in her, and this is incorruptible; this cannot be said of creatures.
(In Io. Ev. XXXVIII, 10)

The Provincial Chapter of the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova began on Sunday, June 8, 2014, with the celebration of Vespers for the Feast of Pentecost. The friars of the Province gathered in the Connelly Center on the campus of Villanova University, the center of higher education which was established by the friars in 1842. Some friars who are infirm or aged were not able to join in the Chapter but are being remembered in prayer.

The Province Chapter, which since 1994 has been a Chapter which includes all the members of the Province, is also a time for fraternal celebration, a time to pray for our deceased, an opportunity to celebrate the recent milestones of professions and ordinations over the past four years. The installation of the newly elected Prior Provincial, Michael DiGregorio, took place on Monday evening during the celebration of the Eucharist and was followed by a reception which included many of the affiliates and friends of the Order and Province. The councilors, treasurer and secretary were elected on Tuesday. Besides the selection of the officials of the Province, the task of the Chapter is to plan for the future, given the age of the friars and the diminishment of numbers and the growing demands of ministry. Having everyone together in the same room, hearing the same thing that is being said, at the same time, help all to embrace goals, formulate plans, and commit themselves to a common purpose.
