Thought of Saint Augustine
When did the Lord want to show himself? At the breaking of the bread. We can be sure of that: by sharing the bread, we recognize the Lord.
Habits support the intelligence just as a way of living leads to a way of life.
(In Io. Ev. XVIII, 7)
Because every man is a neighbor to all men, one should not allow any kind of distance where there is a common nature.
(En. in ps. 118, S 8, 2)

The extent of the destruction caused by the catastrophic earthquake and super-typhoon which recently occurred in the Phillipines cannot be described sufficiently in words. While no one among the Augustinian friars and sisters was physically hurt, many of their relatives suffered varying degrees of injuries and an undetermined number died. As to date, the funds received by the Generalte have been a sign of much generosity from the various circumsctiptions and members the Augustinian family. These funds are still being collected. The donations to the suffering in the Phillipines, come not only from the various circumscriptions and generous benefactors, but also from ordinary folks who have decided to share with their suffering neighbours the little that they have. Such acts of compassion continues even today. This manifestation of solidarity concretely contributes to the easing of pain and hopelessness that the victims experience.

There will be more information forthcoming about the damage caused by the earthquake and typhoon and the response from the Augustinian family around the world.
