|Krakow - Poland
The annual meeting of the Conference of Augustinian Provincials of Europe was held at the Monastery of Saint Catherine, Krakow, Poland, from April 29th to May 3rd, 2013. Twenty-two friars attended, representing all the circumscriptions of Europe, joined by three Assistants General and the Vicar General, and two members of the Secretariat of the Organization of the Augustinians of Europe, OAE. The topics discussed included: vocational communities, collaboration with the laity, the new evangelization, social networking, the inter-circumscriptional novitiate for Southern Europe and the Union of the Provinces of Spain.
One day of the conference was devoted to a pilgrimage to Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps, ably led by a research guide who included in her tour the fate of several of our Polish friars who had been prisoners of the camps, and most of whom died in Auschwitz.
Elected as president and vice-president respectively for the next three year period of the Conference of European Provincials were Fr. Carlos Moran of the Province of the Philippines and Fr. Wieslaw Davidowski of the Province of Poland. With these elections Fr. David Middleton completed his term as President. The next meeting of the Conference has been scheduled to be held next year in Ireland.
